Patrick Mahoney

Attorney Patrick T. Mahoney, an associate at the Law Offices of James E. Blatt, has been involved in the professional practice of criminal law for over 12 years. He was raised in Southern California and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and Business Administration. During his legal education at Whittier College School of Law, Mr. Mahoney received an American Jurisprudence Award in White Collar Crimes and clerked for the Orange County District Attorneys Office.

Immediately after law school, he practiced criminal defense with The Law Offices of James E. Blatt, where he represented state and federal criminal defendants, conducted preliminary hearings, client interviews, legal research, and motion writing. He assisted in the defense of Mr. Bajakajian, the landmark United States Supreme Court case involving government violations of the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution; Cruel and Unusual Punishments and Excessive Fines. He also helped obtain dismissals of a murder case after preliminary hearing and a child molestation case after trial.

In 2000, Patrick Mahoney became an Assistant District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco where he represented the People of the State of California through all phases of criminal prosecutions. He rose quickly through the ranks. As a prosecutor, Mr. Mahoney was specially assigned to units handling domestic violence, general litigation, and sexual assault crimes.

In the Domestic Violence Unit, Mr. Mahoney prosecuted misdemeanor and felony complaints involving assaults, criminal threats, witness intimidation, torture, aggravated mayhem, and attempted murders against spouses/persons in an intimate relationship. He is ready to help you, or your loved ones, through this dynamic area of law.

While assigned to the General Litigation Unit, Mr. Mahoney prosecuted assaults, robberies, burglaries, financial and identity thefts, criminal threats, attempted murders, narcotics, and driving under the influence cases. He is able to properly evaluate your case and will take the time to answer your questions and explain the pending legal procedures.

For his last two and a half years at the San Francisco District Attorney’s office, he handled sexual assault cases. In the Sexual Assault Unit, he was the lead prosecutor handling rape, attempted rape, kidnap for rape, assault with intent to commit rape, sexual battery, and sexually violent predator cases. His successful experience in this sensitive area of law is invaluable to our clients.

Mr. Mahoney has conducted over forty jury trials involving driving under the influence, domestic violence, narcotics, robberies, identity thefts, assaults, attempted murders, aggravated mayhem, torture, rape, kidnap for rape, and sexually violent predators. He has received specialized training in felony sentencing, DNA evidence, sexual assault crimes, domestic violence, and Sexually Violent Predator Law.

The Law Offices of James E. Blatt are pleased that Mr. Mahoney has returned to Los Angeles and rejoined the office. His vast criminal law experience is a great benefit to our clients through all stages of the proceedings.
